AI Summary

From 1 August 2026, NBP pays 10% a year on its PLS Savings, Asaan Savings and Premium Saver accounts, with profit paid twice a year. The Izafi Munafa Account pays monthly: 10.05% on Rs 1 million to Rs 50 million and 10% otherwise. Under NBP's July to December 2026 schedule, current accounts below a Rs 5,000 monthly average pay Rs 50 a month, cheque leaves cost Rs 16 and SMS alerts are free. The Asaan account opens with Rs 100 and a CNIC.

The right NBP account depends on how often you want profit. NBP’s main savings accounts all pay 10% a year from 1 August 2026, with profit twice a year; the Izafi Munafa account pays monthly instead. If you want an everyday account, a current account pays nothing and costs Rs 50 a month if your average balance drops below Rs 5,000. If you have little paperwork, the Asaan account opens with a CNIC and Rs 100.

What are the NBP account types?

Rates below are from NBP’s indicative profit rate sheet effective 1 August 2026, the latest listed on its site on 18 Oct 2026. Balance rules are from the July to December 2026 Schedule of Bank Charges and NBP’s product pages.

Account Type Profit Profit paid Balance rule
PLS Savings Savings 10.00% Half-yearly Not stated on NBP’s pages
Izafi Munafa Savings 10.00% to 10.05% Monthly No minimum; higher rate from Rs 1 million
Premium Saver Savings 10.00% Half-yearly Max 2 withdrawals a month
Asaan Savings Savings 10.00% Half-yearly No minimum; opens with Rs 100

Asaan Current Current None n/a No minimum; exempt from the Rs 50 charge
Itmenan Current (60+) Current None n/a First-year PayPak fee waived

NBP rewards large balances with fee waivers. With Rs 2 million or more on average in a current account, or Rs 5 million in a PLS Savings account, NBP waives pay order, stop payment, cheque return and lost cheque book charges (July to December 2026 schedule).

What is the NBP saving account profit rate in 2026?

NBP’s savings rates have been the same since 1 August 2026. The Izafi Munafa account is the only one with balance tiers.

Account Rate Effective annual rate Paid
PLS Savings, Asaan Savings, Premium Saver 10.00% 10.25% Half-yearly
Izafi Munafa, below Rs 1 million 10.00% 10.47% Monthly
Izafi Munafa, Rs 1 million to Rs 50 million 10.05% 10.53% Monthly
Izafi Munafa, above Rs 50 million 10.00% 10.47% Monthly
Worker’s Foree Remittance Account 10.10% 10.35% Half-yearly

The effective annual rate is higher than the headline rate because profit paid during the year earns profit too. NBP calls these rates indicative, so check the latest sheet before you deposit a large amount.

On Izafi Munafa, the extra 0.05% applies only while your monthly average stays between Rs 1 million and Rs 50 million. Outside that range, the normal PLS rate applies to the whole balance. You can hold one Izafi Munafa account per branch in your own name and one jointly.

If you can lock money away, NBP’s ordinary term deposits (TDRs) paid less than savings: 8.50% for one year and 9.00% for five years (from 1 August 2026). The Premium Aamdani Certificates paid 9.80% for one year with monthly profit. Banks deduct tax on profit; see tax on bank profit. To compare banks, see savings account profit rates.

What is the minimum balance in an NBP current account?

NBP doesn’t set a fixed minimum. Instead, it charges Rs 50 a month on any current account whose monthly average balance is below Rs 5,000, under the July to December 2026 schedule. The Asaan Current Account is exempt.

The NBP Choice Individual Current Account adds free services: unlimited pay orders, unlimited 25-leaf cheque books, free debit card issuance and renewal, free transfers to other banks and free statements, plus a small locker rent waiver if one is available. The schedule says you must keep Rs 25,000 in the first month to qualify.

What are NBP account charges?

These are NBP’s charges for July to December 2026. They are before tax unless marked, so government taxes come on top.

Service Charge
Current account below Rs 5,000 average Rs 50 a month
Withdrawal at an NBP ATM Free
Withdrawal at another bank’s ATM Rs 35
Transfer to another NBP account (app) Free
Transfer to another bank (app, IBFT) Free below Rs 25,000; then 0.1% or Rs 200, whichever is lower
SMS alerts Free
Cheque book Rs 16 a leaf (free with Rs 1 million or more)
PayPak Classic debit card Rs 760 to issue, Rs 2,000 a year
UnionPay Classic debit card Rs 600 to issue, Rs 2,500 a year
Stop payment Rs 500 + FED per instruction
Duplicate statement Rs 35 per statement
Closing the account Nil

With free SMS alerts and a Rs 16 cheque leaf, the debit card’s annual fee is the main running cost for most people. For how NBP compares with other banks, see bank charges in Pakistan and PayPak vs Visa.

What is the NBP Asaan account limit?

NBP’s Asaan page (checked 18 Oct 2026) lists a Rs 1 million monthly debit limit and a Rs 1 million maximum balance. Inward remittances and profit can take you over the balance limit, and any term deposit made from the account counts toward it. A cheque that would break the monthly debit limit is returned unpaid.

Who can open it, according to NBP’s Asaan FAQs:

  • Resident individuals with a CNIC copy, the account form and a Rs 100 deposit; no proof of income
  • Only people who don’t already have an NBP account
  • Single or joint, with at most 2 people; minors with a Form-B and guardian documents

It comes as a current or savings account; the savings version pays the 10% PLS rate. The first 25-leaf cheque book is free, you get a debit card, and closing the account costs nothing. The account opens straight away, but you can’t take money out until NADRA verification is done; NBP says it activates the account within 3 working days of that check.

What documents do I need to open an NBP account?

NBP publishes this list of documents. You need:

  • Individual: a copy of a valid identity document, usually your CNIC. NBP’s product FAQs also mention proof of income for accounts such as Izafi Munafa and Choice.
  • Joint account: an identity document for each holder.
  • Sole proprietor: your identity document plus any one of a registration certificate, an NTN or sales tax certificate, trade body membership proof, or a letter on business letterhead.
  • Minor: identity documents of the child and the parent or guardian.

NBP’s home page links a Digital Account option to its online account-opening portal. We couldn’t read the portal’s terms, so check there which accounts it opens. For other banks’ online accounts, see open a bank account online. For a business account, see business bank account in Pakistan.

Once your account is open, the NBP Digital app registers with your 14-digit account number (4-digit branch code and 10-digit account number) or your 24-digit IBAN, plus your CNIC and registered mobile number. Sending money also needs your debit card and PIN. To read an IBAN, see IBAN number in Pakistan.

Which NBP account suits senior citizens?

The NBP Itmenan accounts are for people aged 60 and above, by the date of birth on their CNIC.

  • Itmenan Term Deposit: 11.70% for one year, 11.35% for three years, 11.15% for five years and 11.35% for ten years (from 1 August 2026), with profit paid monthly into a linked account. The minimum is Rs 100,000 and the maximum Rs 50 million.
  • Itmenan Current Account: the first 25-leaf cheque book is free, the PayPak card’s annual fee is waived for the first year, and the card carries life cover of up to Rs 100,000 (up to age 65).

These rates are higher than any NBP savings account. If you need to borrow against jewellery instead, see gold loans.
