AI Summary
For October 2026, UBL pays individuals 10% a year on its rupee savings accounts up to Rs 10 million and 8% to 8.5% above. Profit is paid twice a year on the UBL Savings Account and monthly on Mahana Aamdani, Urooj Savings and Zindagi. Under UBL's July to December 2026 schedule, cheque books are free and Mukammal and Asaan accounts have no minimum balance charge. On Mukammal, the debit card fee and SMS alerts are waived only with a Rs 25,000 year-to-date average balance.
The right UBL account depends on whether you want profit. For individuals, UBL’s rupee savings accounts all pay 10% a year on balances up to Rs 1 crore (rate sheet for October 2026); they differ in how often profit is paid. UBL’s current accounts (Mukammal, Urooj, Asaan, Freelancer) pay no profit, but the main ones have no minimum balance charge. If you have little paperwork, the Asaan account needs only a CNIC.

UBL ties most of its free services to one test: a year-to-date average balance of Rs 25,000 or more across your current-account relationship. Meet it on Mukammal, Urooj, Freelancer or Good Citizen and the debit card fee is waived, plus other services that differ by account (on Mukammal, duplicate statements and SMS alerts). Miss it and you pay normal rates, though on Mukammal and Freelancer your first debit card is still free. These rules are from the July to December 2026 schedule.
UBL’s Basic Banking page (checked 17 Oct 2026) allows 2 free deposits and 2 free withdrawals a month at the branch. Each extra transaction costs Rs 50 on top of the usual charges. Withdrawals at UBL’s own ATMs are free and unlimited.
For individuals, every UBL rupee savings account pays the same simple rate up to Rs 10 million for October 2026. Above that, the rate drops, and how far depends on the account.
| Account | Up to Rs 10 million | Rs 10 million to Rs 10 crore | Above Rs 10 crore |
|---|---|---|---|
| UBL Savings, Asaan Savings | 10.00% | 8.00% | 8.50% |
| Mahana Aamdani Savings | 10.00% | 8.00% | 8.50% |
| Urooj Savings | 10.00% | 8.00% | Not listed |
| Zindagi, Pensioner Saving | 10.00% | 8.50% | 8.50% |
UBL works out profit on your monthly average balance for all these accounts. Rates for these accounts are set month by month, so check the latest rate sheet on UBL’s site before you deposit a large amount.
UBL’s 10% matches the legal minimum. According to an Allied Bank explainer (we couldn’t open SBP’s site), banks must pay individuals at least 10% a year on savings, 50 basis points below the State Bank’s 10.50% floor rate (as of the 15 September 2026 policy decision). Since 1 August 2026 that minimum covers only individuals with an average balance up to Rs 10 million, which is why UBL pays less above it.
If you can lock money away, the UBL Mahana Aamdani Term Deposit paid 9.50% for one year, 9.25% for six months and 9.00% for three months (October 2026), with profit every month. That is less than the 10% savings rate. Banks deduct tax on profit; see tax on bank profit. To compare with other banks, see savings account profit rates.
A current account pays nothing but suits frequent payments. UBL’s main one is Mukammal. Figures below are from the July to December 2026 schedule.
| Mukammal Current | UBL Savings Account | |
|---|---|---|
| Profit | None | 10% up to Rs 1 crore (Oct 2026) |
| Minimum balance charge | None | Standard charges apply |
| Cheque book | Free | Free |
| Pay order | Free | Free (issued through the account) |
| Debit card annual fee | Free with Rs 25,000 YTD average; first card free | Normal fee |
| SMS alerts | Free with Rs 25,000 YTD average | Rs 250 + FED a month for branch transactions |
Cheque books are free on every UBL account under this schedule. So the Mukammal account costs you almost nothing to run if you keep Rs 25,000 on average. Below that, the card fee and the SMS charge are the main costs.
If you only want profit, the Mahana Aamdani account is the simplest: it opens with Rs 100, has no minimum or maximum balance, and pays 10% every month.
These charges apply to most UBL accounts, as of the July to December 2026 schedule. Government levies come on top unless marked.

UBL’s branch Asaan account can hold up to Rs 3 million, and you can move out (debit) up to Rs 1 million a month, according to UBL’s Asaan page (checked 17 Oct 2026). Home remittances coming in have no cap. Any term deposit you make through the account counts toward the Rs 3 million, and outward payments abroad are restricted except by card.
Who can open it:
It opens with as little as Rs 100. Cheque books, pay orders and counter deposits are free, it has no minimum balance charge (July to December 2026 schedule), and UBL adds free accident cover of up to Rs 2.5 million. It comes as a current or a savings account; the savings version paid 10% in October 2026. For how Asaan accounts work at other banks, see Asaan account.
The UBL Freelancer Account is for residents who sell online services, including IT work, to clients abroad and are paid from abroad. It is a rupee current account that pays no profit, opened together with an ESFCA that holds foreign currency.
You can open the rupee account online or at a branch, but the ESFCA needs a branch visit. For other ways to receive money from clients, see freelancer payment methods.
UBL’s Asaan Digital Account opens on its website (checked 17 Oct 2026). It is for people new to UBL, aged 18 or over.
You can also open the Smart Account inside the UBL Digital App with your original CNIC and a selfie. It has no initial deposit, a Rs 3 million balance limit and a Rs 1 million monthly sending limit. The Digital Mukammal account has no balance limits but asks for proof of occupation and income. For other banks’ apps, see open a bank account online.
