Asaan account limits, as of October 2026
Rs 3 million balance · Rs 1 million debits a month
From SBP's Consolidated Customer Onboarding Framework, 25 July 2025 (Annex D). Some bank pages still show the older Rs 1 million balance cap from 2022.
SBP (the State Bank of Pakistan) created the Asaan account in 2015 for people on low incomes who had no bank account or used banks very little. Opening one needed a one-page form in Urdu or English, and banks could offer it as a current, savings or other profit-paying account.
Today it comes in three forms:
Since July 2025, all three fall under one SBP rulebook, the Consolidated Customer Onboarding Framework. It replaced the 2015 Asaan account guidelines, their 2022 revision and the 2021 digital onboarding rules that created the Asaan Digital Account. Banks had 3 months from 25 July 2025 to comply.
SBP has raised the limits since 2015. The current ones apply to both branch and digital Asaan accounts.
| 2015 rules | April 2022 | July 2025 (current) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maximum balance | Rs 500,000 | Rs 1,000,000 | Rs 3,000,000 |
| Debits a month | Rs 500,000 | Rs 1,000,000 | Rs 1,000,000 |
The 2025 framework adds some exceptions and protections:
HBL lists a Rs 3 million maximum balance and Rs 1 million monthly debit limit, with no limit on inward remittances. The table shows what each bank’s own page said when we checked, as of October 2026.

Your CNIC and a self-declaration about where you live, where your money comes from and who owns the account. SBP’s framework lists no income documents. For digital opening, SBP accepts a CNIC, NICOP, POC (Pakistan Origin Card), POR or ARC (Alien Registration Card).
Before the account opens, the bank must check your identity through NADRA biometrics (finger, thumb, iris or face). If you have a disability, unclear fingerprints or are over 60, the bank can use NADRA Verisys instead. Online, the bank also takes a live photo.
Banks add their own conditions:
The 2015 rules set a Rs 100 minimum deposit and banned fees for opening or closing the account. The 2025 framework replaced those rules, and we couldn’t find either point in it, so check with your bank.
Yes. SBP lets banks open Asaan accounts on their website, app or a digital kiosk, and the bank must accept or decline your application within 2 working days of getting complete documents, with a tracking ID. Our guide to opening a bank account online compares each bank’s app and portal.
AMA is a platform run by SBP and PTA with branchless banking providers and mobile networks. Anyone with a valid CNIC can open an account by dialling *2262# from any network’s SIM, on a basic phone or smartphone, without internet.
You can check your balance, send money to any Pakistani bank account, pay bills and top up your phone. The account stays blocked for outgoing payments until biometric or alternative verification is done. As of 10 Oct 2022, 13 banks were on the platform and 5,753,459 accounts had been opened.
SBP’s framework sets separate limits for branchless banking accounts: Rs 100,000 a day and Rs 300,000 a month in and out, and a Rs 1 million maximum balance. We couldn’t find a source that ties these figures to AMA by name, so confirm them with your provider. For app-based wallets, see Easypaisa vs JazzCash.
Only if the bank offers a savings version. HBL’s Asaan account is current only and pays nothing. Meezan’s Digital Asaan Account comes as a savings (Mudarabah) account that pays profit monthly, worked out daily. Its page showed 7.00% for July 2025, but the rate changes every month and we couldn’t confirm today’s. Compare rates in savings account profit rates.

It doesn’t suit you if:
If you outgrow it, the bank must let you convert your Asaan account into a regular account once it has done the extra checks.

Under SBP's Consolidated Customer Onboarding Framework of 25 July 2025, an Asaan account can hold up to Rs 3 million and allows Rs 1 million of debits a month. Inward remittances and profit can take the balance above the cap, and you can ask the bank to lift the limit for a one-off deal such as a property sale.
Yes. SBP lets banks open Asaan accounts through websites, apps and kiosks for CNIC holders, with NADRA biometric verification and a live photo. Bank Alfalah opens its Asaan Digital Current Account only through its RAPID portal, and Allied Bank offers its Asaan Digital Account on its website and the myABL app.
It depends on the bank's version. HBL's Asaan Account is a current account and pays no profit, while Meezan offers its Digital Asaan Account as a savings account that pays profit monthly.
