AI Summary

A Schengen visa needs travel medical insurance of at least EUR 30,000, valid in every Schengen state for your whole stay. The German and Czech embassies in Pakistan list 25 local insurers. As of 13 Oct 2026, Adamjee's Schengen Active plan costs Rs 1,600 for 7 days for one person; Jubilee's Schengen plan offers US$50,000 but its price isn't published. EFU's cheapest plan covers only US$15,000. Adamjee, Jubilee and EFU exclude pre-existing conditions.

For a Schengen visa, travel insurance bought in Pakistan must cover at least EUR 30,000 of emergency medical costs, be valid in every Schengen state and last your whole stay. That is EU law, not an insurer’s rule. As of 13 Oct 2026, the only plan we found with a published Schengen-specific price is Adamjee’s Schengen Active, at Rs 1,600 for 7 days for one person. Adamjee, Jubilee General and EFU General all exclude pre-existing illness.

Schengen Active, one person

Rs 1,600 for 7 days, Rs 3,500 for 31 days

Adamjee Insurance, taxes and stamp duty included, as listed on 13 Oct 2026

Do I need travel insurance for a Schengen visa?

Yes. Article 15 of the EU Visa Code sets the rule for every Schengen embassy. Your policy must:

  • cover at least EUR 30,000
  • cover repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical treatment, emergency hospital treatment and death
  • be valid in all Schengen states, not just the one you apply to
  • cover your whole stay, every day of it

For a multiple-entry visa, the policy only has to cover your first trip. You also sign a statement on the form saying you know you need cover for later trips. Holders of diplomatic passports are exempt.

The law says applicants should, in principle, buy insurance in their own country of residence. Consulates may also check whether a claim against your insurer could be recovered in a Schengen state.

The visa itself costs EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged 6 to 12, according to the European Commission, as of 13 Oct 2026. You can apply no earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 days before you travel.

Which travel insurance companies in Pakistan do embassies accept?

The German embassy in Islamabad lists 25 Pakistani insurers for Schengen travel insurance. The Czech embassy’s page, dated 13 Jun 2023, carries the same 25 names. They include Adamjee, Alfalah, Askari General, Atlas, EFU General, IGI, Jubilee General, Pak-Qatar General Takaful, Salaam Takaful, TPL, UBL Insurers and United Insurance (UIC).

Germany’s list is marked “updated March 2022”. Check the page of the embassy you are applying to before you buy.

How much is travel insurance in Pakistan?

These are the prices insurers publish on their own websites, for one adult. Prices include taxes. This is not a ranking. Ratings are PACRA’s insurer financial strength (IFS) grades: AA++ is the highest any of these insurers holds.

Notes on the table, all as of 13 Oct 2026:

  • Adamjee publishes the most detail. Schengen Active costs Rs 2,300 for 15 days, Rs 5,800 for 92 days and Rs 13,000 for a year of trips of up to 90 days each. A family policy for 7 days costs Rs 2,650. The plan has a EUR 100 deductible and no baggage, flight delay or trip cancellation cover. Adamjee’s own documents disagree on its other plans: the policy certificate says every plan except Secure Plus and Care meets the Schengen requirement, while the plans page says only Schengen Active applies to Schengen states. Buy Schengen Active to be safe.
  • Jubilee General offers a Schengen Compliant plan with US$50,000 of medical cover. Its international page only shows prices next to the US$10,000 Multi-Purpose plan, which excludes Schengen states: Rs 750 for 7 days. Jubilee pays all claims in rupees.
  • EFU General says its worldwide product meets Schengen requirements. But its Basic plan covers US$15,000 of hospital costs, which is below the EUR 30,000 minimum. Its Standard plan (US$35,000) is Rs 1,400 for 7 days outside the USA, Canada, Australia and Japan. Ask EFU in writing which plan it issues for a Schengen visa.
  • TPL sells three plans online (Basic up to 15 days, Standard up to 30 days, Premium up to 90 days) but shows no rupee prices and doesn’t mention Schengen.

For what the ratings mean and how these insurers compare on car cover, see car insurance companies compared. PACRA lists TPL’s rating as on Rating Watch (2 May 2026).

Is travel insurance cheaper outside Schengen?

It depends on the plan and the destination. As of 13 Oct 2026, Adamjee charges Rs 750 for 7 days on its Care plan (US$10,000 medical), which excludes the USA, UK, Canada and Schengen states. Its Secure Supreme plan for the USA, UK, Canada and worldwide costs Rs 4,100 for 7 days, with US$50,000 of medical cover.

EFU prices the same plans higher if your trip includes the USA, Canada, Australia or Japan: Basic rises from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,400 for 7 days.

For Umrah, Adamjee sells a Hajj, Umrah and Ziarat plan with US$10,000 of medical cover for Rs 500 for 7 days, or Rs 1,100 for 31 days. We did not check whether a Saudi visa already includes medical insurance.

Students going to a Schengen country can buy Adamjee’s Student Basic plan (EUR 30,000 medical): Rs 9,500 for six months or Rs 19,600 for a year, without tuition fee cover.

What does travel insurance not cover?

The exclusions matter more than the price. These terms are as listed on the insurers’ sites on 13 Oct 2026; EFU’s age rules come from an undated brochure.

  • Pre-existing illness. Adamjee, Jubilee General and EFU General all exclude it. EFU excludes it even if you didn’t know you had it.
  • Older travellers. Jubilee covers ages 18 to 65 online; ages 66 to 70 must call its helpline. Adamjee doubles the premium for ages 65 to 85. EFU adds 50% from age 67, 75% from 76 and 100% from 81, and applies a 15% deductible on medical claims over age 70.
  • Trips that don’t start in Pakistan. Adamjee’s policy is valid only if you leave Pakistan on or after the start date. EFU requires you to start and end the trip in Pakistan.
  • Student plans. Adamjee’s student plans also exclude cancer and pregnancy.
