AI Summary

Bike insurance in Pakistan comes as third-party cover, which pays for harm you cause to others, or comprehensive cover, which also pays for theft and damage to your own bike. TPL says its bike plans start from Rs 2,500 a year, and Meezan Bank adds a 5% a year takaful charge on Apni Bike financing, as of October 2026. Sindh's 2026 third-party rule exempts motorcycles. Deductibles of 10% to 15% mean small claims are often not worth filing.

Bike insurance in Pakistan comes in two kinds. Third-party cover pays for injury, death or damage you cause to other people. Comprehensive cover also pays when your own bike is stolen, snatched or damaged. TPL Insurance says its bike plans start from Rs 2,500 a year, and Meezan Bank adds a 5% a year takaful charge on its bike financing, as of October 2026.

Is bike insurance mandatory in Pakistan?

On paper, yes. Section 94 of the saved Chapter VIII of the Motor Vehicles Act 1939 requires valid insurance for motor vehicles used in public places. The West Pakistan Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1965 lets registration authorities suspend the registration of an uninsured vehicle.

In practice, few vehicles are insured. An SECP (Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan) report found only 2.77% of about 3 crore registered vehicles insured, as of August 2023. About 2.3 crore of those vehicles were motorcycles.

Sindh’s 2026 amendment to its motor vehicles law requires third-party cover, but motorcycles are exempt. The new section 67-H blocks registration, transfer and token tax without a policy for any vehicle “except two wheelers or motorcycles”. Dawn’s report of 8 Mar 2026 described the rule as covering “all vehicles”; we follow the Act’s text. For the cost of keeping a bike on the road, see token tax in Punjab.

What is the difference between third-party and comprehensive bike insurance?

Third party Comprehensive
Injury or death of others Yes Yes
Damage to other people’s property Depends on the policy Yes
Accident damage to your bike No Yes
Theft or snatching No Yes
Fire, flood, storm, earthquake No Yes
Riot, strike, malicious damage No Yes
Wear and tear, breakdown No No

The comprehensive column comes from the motorcycle policies of EFU General and Pak-Qatar General Takaful, as of October 2026. EFU also lists third-party, third-party property damage and theft/own damage as separate motor covers, so check which one you are buying.

Some insurers sell a middle option. TPL’s Smart Ride covers only theft and total loss. Its Smart Ride Plus adds accident damage and third-party liability.

How much does bike insurance cost in Pakistan?

Few insurers publish bike prices. These are the figures we could confirm on insurer and bank sites:

Seller What it says Date
TPL Insurance Bike plans “starting from” Rs 2,500 a year July 2025 blog
Meezan Bank (Apni Bike) Takaful charge of 5% a year; mandatory on the 0% plan, optional on the standard plan 16 Oct 2026

TPL’s figure is a starting price, so your quote depends on the bike and the plan. Meezan’s 5% applies only if you finance the bike through Apni Bike: see bike on installment for the full cost of that plan.

We saw other bike prices on agent blogs, but could not confirm them on any insurer’s own site, so we leave them out. Ask for a written quote that names the sum insured, the deductible and what is excluded.

Which companies sell bike insurance in Pakistan?

We don’t rank insurers. These are the ones whose motorcycle products we could open and read, as of October 2026:

Insurer Product Type Buy online?
TPL Insurance Smart Ride, Smart Ride Plus Conventional Yes, app and website
EFU General Motorcycle Comprehensive Conventional Not shown
Pak-Qatar General Takaful Motorcycle Comprehensive Takaful Takaful Not shown
Meezan Bank Takaful with Apni Bike financing Takaful (bank-arranged) Only with financing

Salaam Takaful and Jubilee General list bike products, but their pages did not load for us, so we couldn’t check the cover. For insurer financial strength ratings, see car insurance companies compared.

To buy, EFU asks for your registration copy and CNIC, and the policy must be in the registered owner’s name. A new bike with registration “applied for” can be insured if you send the papers within 15 days.

What do deductibles mean for a bike claim?

A deductible is the part of each claim you pay yourself. TPL’s rules, as of October 2026:

  • Smart Ride: 10% of the sum covered on theft, snatch or total loss.
  • Smart Ride Plus: Rs 5,000 or 10% of the sum insured, whichever is higher, on each loss; 15% on theft, snatch or total loss.

On a Rs 159,900 bike (Meezan’s listed price for a Honda CD 70 on 16 Oct 2026), 10% is about Rs 16,000. So a small dent or a broken indicator is usually not worth claiming. Comprehensive cover earns its price mainly on theft and total loss.

Read the exclusions too. Pak-Qatar won’t pay for wear and tear or mechanical breakdown, pays for tyres and battery only when the bike is damaged in the same incident (up to 50%), and won’t pay for stolen accessories unless the bike is stolen too. It also refuses claims if the rider was not a driver described in the policy schedule.

How do I make a bike insurance claim?

Bike insurance claim, from incident to payment
  1. You Report the claim TPL takes claims through its app
  2. You, insurer Survey TPL lets you upload photos in its app for a self-survey
  3. You Upload the repair invoice TPL asks for the repair invoice in its app
  4. Insurer Payment, minus your deductible The insurer has 90 days to pay under the Insurance Ordinance 2000

Under section 118 of the Insurance Ordinance 2000, an insurer has 90 days to pay a claim. If it is late, it owes you liquidated damages on top.

At each renewal, check the sum insured. TPL tells customers to raise or lower it to match the bike’s market value.

What can I do if my claim is rejected?

If an insurer rejects or delays your claim, you can go to the Federal Insurance Ombudsman (FIO). Complaints are filed online at fio.gov.pk, or call 1082 (9 am to 5 pm). The Ombudsman has directed advisers to dispose of complaints within 60 days.
