AI Summary

Karachi's traffic challans now come from TRACS, a camera e-ticketing system launched on 27 October 2025. You check them on the Trax4Citizens app from the Sindh Police website, using your CNIC. Paying within 14 days halves the fine; after 21 days it doubles. Fines are high: Rs 5,000 for riding without a helmet and Rs 10,000 for a car signal violation. Unpaid challans block a sale, and can lead to licence suspension and a CNIC block. Appeals go to desks at 11 police stations.

A traffic challan in Karachi now comes from cameras, not a warden. To check one, register on the Trax4Citizens app, linked from the Sindh Police website, with your CNIC, mobile number and email. Pay within 14 days and the fine is halved; leave it past 21 days and it doubles. Fines are high: Rs 5,000 for riding without a helmet. These rules are as reported by Dawn and others since October 2025.

The Sindh Police website and its challan portal didn’t open for us on 22 October 2026, so everything below comes from dated news reports.

How does Karachi’s e-challan system work?

The system is called TRACS (Traffic Regulation and Citation System). Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah launched it on 27 October 2025 (Geo News). Its AI-linked cameras detect over-speeding, red-light jumping and riders without helmets (Geo News, January 2026).

Dawn reported 1,076 cameras on main roads in the first phase, with plans for up to 12,000 across Karachi and its toll plazas. Geo gave a lower figure of 200 cameras at launch.

Each challan is posted by Pakistan Post to the address linked to the number plate in the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department’s records (Dawn).

On the first day, more than 2,650 challans were issued. Most were for seatbelts (1,535), helmets (507), over-speeding (419) and red lights (166), Dawn reported.

How do I check my traffic challan in Karachi online?

Dawn’s guide of 28 October 2025 describes the official app:

  1. Open the Sindh Police website and find the Trax4Citizens app link at the bottom right of the main page.
  2. Register with your CNIC, mobile number and email address.
  3. See your vehicles. The app lists every vehicle registered on your CNIC.
  4. Check violations and warnings against each vehicle.

PakWheels also names a Sindh Police challan page, sindhpolice.gov.pk/challan-check (December 2025), and trax.sindhpolice.gov.pk (June 2026). Both search by vehicle number or CNIC. PakWheels said some users hit timeouts on trax and had to retry.

For help by phone, call the 1915 traffic helpline. It opened on 28 December 2025 and runs 24 hours (PakWheels).

How do I pay a Karachi e-challan?

Geo News reported that TRACS is linked to payment gateways, the excise department, the driving licence system and NADRA e-Sahulat. You can view and pay fines online or on your phone through the TRACS app. PakWheels said in December 2025 that online payment works through banking and mobile money services.

If you’d rather pay in person, TRACS Sahulat centres at major traffic offices and police stations help you pay, understand a violation or contest it (Geo News).

We couldn’t confirm which banks or wallets list the challan. Only unofficial websites name them, so use the app’s own payment option.

When you pay What you owe
Within 14 days 50% of the fine
Day 15 to day 21 The full fine
From day 22 Double the fine

Dawn reported these deadlines in October 2025. In November 2025 the chief minister also announced that first-time violators could have the fine waived within 10 days by apologising in person (Dawn). We couldn’t confirm that the waiver still applies.

What are the traffic challan rates in Karachi?

Sindh amended the Twelfth Schedule of the Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1965 in October 2025, with fines and demerit points for each offence. Times of Karachi published the full list on 3 October 2025. These are the common ones:

Offence Motorcycle Car or jeep Points
No helmet Rs 5,000 – 6
Signal violation Rs 5,000 Rs 10,000 4
Over-speeding Rs 5,000 Rs 10,000 or Rs 15,000 (see below) 8
Wrong side of the road Rs 5,000 Rs 10,000 6
Wrong way on a one-way road Rs 25,000 Rs 30,000 8
One-wheeling Rs 25,000 – 8
Driving without a licence Rs 20,000 Rs 25,000 6
Tinted glass beyond limits – Rs 25,000 6
Most parking violations Rs 2,000 Rs 10,000 2

For a car, over-speeding is Rs 10,000 in Times of Karachi’s list but Rs 15,000 in Dawn and The News. Heavy vehicles pay Rs 20,000 in all three. A seatbelt fine of Rs 10,000 was charged to a DIG’s car in the system’s first week (Dawn).

Sindh has talked about lowering fines for motorcycles and small cars. A Sindh Assembly committee asked for recommendations in December 2025 (Daily Times), but we found no notice of new amounts. These fines are much higher than Punjab’s: compare e-challan in Punjab.

What happens if you don’t pay a Karachi e-challan?

Dawn listed these steps in October 2025:

  • Day 22: the amount doubles.
  • After 3 months: your driving licence can be suspended.
  • After 6 months: police ask NADRA to block your CNIC. NADRA warns you first.
  • Any time: a vehicle with unpaid fines can’t be sold or transferred.

Separately, 30 demerit points in a year suspend your licence. For now the points apply only to Sindh-registered number plates.

In June 2026, PakWheels reported that Sindh Traffic Police and Excise had listed 40,000 vehicles for pending e-challans, unverified transfers or bad address records, with a crackdown from 1 July 2026.

How do I contest a wrong e-challan in Karachi?

  1. Find the appeal desk. There are desks at 11 police stations, listed on the back of your challan.
  2. File the appeal and keep the token you are given.
  3. Wait 3 to 4 days. A district committee led by a senior superintendent of police, with a police officer and a Citizen-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) member, reviews it.
  4. If you win, the challan is removed. The 21-day payment clock is paused while the appeal is reviewed.

This process is from Dawn’s October 2025 guide. Petitions against the e-challan rules were also pending in the Sindh High Court in January 2026 (Geo News).
