AI Summary

As of October 2026, the passport fee in Pakistan for a 36-page e-passport is Rs 9,000 normal or Rs 15,000 urgent for 5 years, and Rs 13,500 or Rs 22,500 for 10 years. A 72-page e-passport costs Rs 16,500 to Rs 40,500. Pakistan stopped issuing machine-readable passports on 15 Oct 2026, The Nation and Minute Mirror reported, so new applicants get e-passports, and DGI&P says fast track isn't available for them. Fees are paid cashless, by QR code or the Passport Fee Asaan app. Old passports stay valid until expiry.

The passport fee in Pakistan for a standard 36-page e-passport is Rs 9,000 for 5 years or Rs 13,500 for 10 years at normal speed, as of October 2026, or Rs 15,000 and Rs 22,500 urgent. Since 15 Oct 2026, every new passport is an e-passport, The Nation and Minute Mirror reported, so these are the fees you pay now. You pay cashless, by QR code or through the Passport Fee Asaan app.

Standard e-passport (36 pages, 5 years)

Rs 9,000 normal, Rs 15,000 urgent

DGI&P ordinary passport fee page, checked 17 Oct 2026. 10 years: Rs 13,500 normal, Rs 22,500 urgent.

What is the passport fee in Pakistan in 2026?

These are the e-passport fees on the website of the Directorate General of Immigration & Passports (DGI&P), checked on 17 Oct 2026. TechJuice reported the same figures.

Pages Validity Normal Urgent
36 5 years Rs 9,000 Rs 15,000
36 10 years Rs 13,500 Rs 22,500
72 5 years Rs 16,500 Rs 27,000
72 10 years Rs 24,750 Rs 40,500

DGI&P lists only 36 and 72 pages for the e-passport. The older 100-page option was a machine-readable passport (MRP) size, and we found no 100-page e-passport fee.

If you apply at an Executive Passport Office or a NADRA Passport Processing Counter, you also pay NADRA’s service charges at the counter. DGI&P doesn’t publish the amount.

Why did the passport fee go up?

It didn’t change for the same product: the cheaper passport stopped being issued. DGI&P decided to stop issuing new MRPs from 15 Oct 2026, The Nation reported, and Minute Mirror said 14 October was the last day to apply for one.

New applicants in Pakistan and at missions abroad now get e-passports only, The Nation said. DGI&P’s own website had no notice about the 15 October date when we checked on 17 Oct 2026; its 1 July 2026 update says only that e-passports replace ordinary passports.

For comparison, the MRP fees from 7 Mar 2024 were:

MRP, 36 pages Normal Urgent
5 years Rs 4,500 Rs 7,500
10 years Rs 6,700 Rs 11,200

So a 5-year, 36-page passport at normal speed now costs Rs 4,500 more than before. Some pages still quote Rs 4,500, including DGI&P’s own FAQ, last updated 7 Sep 2026. We follow the e-passport fee table, because MRPs are no longer issued.

Your current passport stays valid until the expiry date printed in it. You only pay the e-passport fee when you renew.

Is there a fast track passport fee for e-passports?

No, according to DGI&P. Its fee page says: “Fast Track Service, is not available for e-Passport Delivery.”

Fast track was an MRP service, offered in 47 cities. Its fee from 8 May 2024 was Rs 12,500 for a 36-page, 5-year passport. With MRPs stopped, we found no fast-track option for a new application, so the quickest choice is urgent.

How long does a passport take, normal or urgent?

DGI&P’s processing table says urgent takes 5 working days and normal 21 working days. Its FAQ gives the same times.

The same DGI&P page also says, in another section, urgent passports are delivered after 4 working days and normal ones after 10. We couldn’t find times specific to e-passports, so treat these as a guide.

Since 1 July 2026, DGI&P also offers home delivery with TCS across Pakistan.

How do I pay the passport fee?

Passport fees became cashless on 1 July 2026, DGI&P announced. You have two ways to pay:

  1. At the passport office: at the fee step, scan the QR code and pay from any banking app or digital wallet. DGI&P says this works 24/7.
  2. Before you go: pay online through the Passport Fee Asaan app or DGI&P’s e-payment portal.

You can apply at any passport office, whatever address is on your CNIC, under Passport Rule 6 as revised in 2021.

How much is the passport renewal fee?

DGI&P lists no separate renewal fee, so the fee table above applies. You can renew at any time; DGI&P says a full 5- or 10-year passport can be issued even if your current one still has validity left.

You can also renew online at onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk, from Pakistan or abroad, if your passport has expired or has less than a year left and your details match your old passport and NADRA record. You pay by credit or debit card at the last step. The online fee is not refundable, DGI&P says.

We couldn’t open the portal to check whether it now issues e-passports.

What are the passport fees for overseas Pakistanis?

Missions abroad charge in local currency. The Embassy in Abu Dhabi and Consulate in Dubai published this e-passport fee list on 17 Jul 2026, Khaleej Times reported:

UAE (AED) 5 years, normal 5 years, urgent 10 years, normal 10 years, urgent
36 pages 145 235 215 355
72 pages 260 425 390 635

The UAE launch planned for 20 July 2026 was then postponed for technical reasons. We couldn’t confirm what UAE missions charge after the 15 October switch, so check with your mission before you pay.

For other countries, check your embassy or consulate’s own page. The High Commission in London, for example, still listed only MRP fees when we checked on 17 Oct 2026. If you live abroad, the online portal also lets you apply for a newborn’s first passport (up to 2 years old), replace a damaged or full passport or a first or second lost one, and move a normal application to urgent by paying the difference.

What is the fee for a lost passport?

Double the normal fee for a first loss and four times for a second, DGI&P says. You need a police report. A third loss is referred to DGI&P headquarters in Islamabad.

For a 36-page, 5-year e-passport, the double fee works out at Rs 18,000 normal.

What is the passport fee for children?

DGI&P lists no separate fee for children, so the same table applies. Children under 15 only get a 5-year passport, so the fee is Rs 9,000 normal or Rs 15,000 urgent for 36 pages.
