The CM Punjab e-taxi scheme: 1,100 electric taxis in Lahore on 0% five-year loans. Cars and prices, the down payment, who got them, and status in Oct 2026.
The CM Punjab e-taxi scheme puts 1,100 electric taxis on Lahore's roads with Bank of Punjab loans over five years, with the Punjab government paying all the interest. You pay a down payment of about 30%, and the government pays half of it for men and 60% for women. Cars listed in September 2025 cost Rs 49.5 lakh to Rs 1.1 crore. The places were filled by ballot in late 2025, and as of 24 October 2026 we found no open round for new applicants.

Is the e-taxi scheme open for new applications?
Not that we could find. The scheme opened on 17 September 2025 and more than 28,000 people applied, Dunya News reported in November 2025. The Bank of Punjab then held a ballot for the 1,100 places, and Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan said in April 2026 that 1,100 candidates had been selected.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz formally launched the scheme on 26 February 2026. Since then we found no official notice of a second phase or a new application window. The Transport Department’s site links to an e-taxi portal, e-taxi.punjab.gov.pk, but it didn’t load from our location on 24 October 2026, so we couldn’t check it.
How does the e-taxi financing work?
The Transport Department’s June 2025 scheme document sets out what the Punjab government pays:
Part of your down payment. Dawn reported at the launch that you put down 30% of the price, and the government pays half of that for men and 60% for women.
All the bank interest on a five-year loan from the Bank of Punjab, so the loan is interest-free to you.
Vehicle registration charges. Dawn added that fitness tests and token tax are covered too.
The government finances cars priced up to Rs 65 lakh. Suppliers can offer dearer cars, but you pay anything above Rs 65 lakh upfront, the document says.
What is the e-taxi down payment and price?
At the launch the Chief Minister said a car could be taken home for Rs 6.9 lakh. In April 2026 PakWheels reported that selected applicants were paying Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh, depending on the car, and that 380 of them had paid by then.
We found no official monthly instalment figure. It depends on the car’s price, the down payment and the five-year term.
Which cars and companies are in the e-taxi scheme?
The department registered suppliers in June 2025, and buyers pick from their approved cars on the scheme portal. Pakistan Observer published this list in September 2025:

Prices are rounded to the nearest Rs 50,000. The last two cost more than Rs 65 lakh, so you would pay the extra upfront. We couldn’t confirm whether the list changed before the cars were delivered.
Every supplier must give a 6-year or 300,000 km battery warranty, a 6-year motor warranty, at least two sales and service centres in Lahore, and one charging station per 50 cars sold, the department’s clarification minutes say. Each e-taxi has a panic button linked to the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, Dawn reported.
Both individual drivers and companies with fleets. In June 2026 Daily Pakistan reported about 700 cars for fleet operators, each running at least 10 cars with ride-hailing apps, and about 400 for individual drivers.
Radio Pakistan reported a 30% quota for women at the launch, and taxis driven by women have a different colour. PakWheels said preference went to women, companies and professional drivers. Dawn reported that the cars were being registered with InDrive and Yango.

What happens if an e-taxi isn’t used as a taxi?
It can be taken back. In June 2026 the Transport Department found some owners using their e-taxis as family cars and removing the government branding. Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan said cars parked at home or used privately would be repossessed, and the department began inspecting every one, Daily Pakistan reported.
Is the e-taxi scheme part of the other CM Punjab schemes?
Yes, to you. The Punjab government pays all the bank interest on a five-year Bank of Punjab loan, so you repay only the car's price minus your down payment.
How much is the down payment for the e-taxi scheme?
About 30% of the car's price, and the government pays half of that for men and 60% for women. In April 2026 PakWheels reported down payments of Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh, depending on the car.
Can I apply for the CM Punjab e-taxi scheme online now?
As of 24 October 2026 we found no open application round. The 1,100 phase-1 places were filled by a Bank of Punjab ballot in late 2025.
Which cars are in the e-taxi scheme, and what do they cost?
Pakistan Observer's September 2025 list had six cars, from the Honri Ve 3.0 at Rs 49.5 lakh to the SkyWell ET5 at Rs 1.11 crore. The government finances cars up to Rs 65 lakh; you pay anything above that upfront.
Can I use the e-taxi as a family car?
No. In June 2026 the Transport Minister said e-taxis kept at home or used privately would be taken back, and the department began inspecting every one.
The CM Punjab electric bike scheme gives students 100,000 e-bikes at about Rs 3,000 a month, no down payment. Eligibility, the 4 Oct last date and balloting.
