What is a NADRA FRC?

NADRA issues the FRC under Rule 19 of the NADRA (NIC) Rules 2002. It says the certificate is valid proof of your family composition and is generally used for immigration, visas and other legal or administrative purposes. Profit reported that rule changes in June 2025 gave the FRC legal status.

NADRA offers four types:

FRC type What it lists NADRA name
By Birth Your parents and siblings Alpha family
By Marriage Your spouse and children Beta family
By Adoption Your guardian and adopted family members Gamma family
By All Both your birth and marriage families Both

Since June 2025, Aaj News and Profit report, an FRC lists all wives and children of a man with more than one marriage.

When do you need an FRC?

  • Visas and immigration. NADRA names these as the main use. For which countries need a visa at all, see visa-free countries for Pakistanis.
  • NADRA succession certificate. NADRA checks the legal heirs against the FRC, and lists it with the death certificate and CNIC cancellation certificate. See succession certificate in Pakistan.
  • Inheritance of land in Punjab. Heirs submit an FRC to confirm how many heirs there are before an inheritance mutation, according to a LUMS study of Punjab’s digital land records. See property transfer in Punjab.

ARY News reported the same Rs 1,000 executive-only fee from NADRA’s 7 April 2026 update. Older blogs that list normal or urgent FRC fees are out of date.

If you apply through Pakistan’s embassy in Washington, it adds a US$26 service charge per application, payable by card only. Other missions set their own charges, so check yours.

How do I apply for an FRC at a NADRA centre?

All family members should already be registered with NADRA and have a 13-digit ID number (CNIC, NICOP or child registration certificate). NADRA says unregistered relatives who have died, and in some cases living ones, can still be included from the details you give.

  1. Check who applies. ARY News (July 2025) says one family member applies: a blood relative or spouse. A legal guardian applies for adopted or orphaned children.
  2. Bring the children who need a photo. Children under 18 whose B-form has no photo must come so NADRA can photograph them. Those with a photo B-form or juvenile card needn’t come.
  3. Take a token at reception and wait for your turn.
  4. Give your fingerprints at the counter. The official checks your family details and asks which FRC type you want.
  5. Review the entries and sign. You sign a confirmation form. Since June 2025 you also give an undertaking that the information is correct, Profit reports.
  6. Pay and collect. ARY News says the FRC can be collected the same day after paying, and NADRA sends an SMS when it’s approved.

How do I apply for an FRC online?

The Foreign Ministry says NADRA’s Pak Identity system takes FRC applications at id.nadra.gov.pk. Pakistan’s embassy in Washington adds the Pak ID mobile app for iOS and Android. For overseas Pakistanis, the Foreign Ministry says an FRC can only be applied for online. The Washington embassy runs a help desk, by appointment, for people stuck with the online process.

For an FRC from abroad, the Washington embassy asks for:

  • CNIC or NICOP copies of the family members on the certificate
  • passport-size photos of them, on a white background

The embassy says family records must already be linked in NADRA’s database. If they need updating, that takes 4 to 7 working days before you can apply, and the FRC itself 3 to 4 days. Pak Identity support: [email protected] or +92 51 111 786 100.

How do I track my FRC application?

  • Pak ID app: Gulf News (September 2025) says the app’s inbox shows each application in real time, and you can pay FRC fees in the app.
  • NADRA centre: ARY News says NADRA sends an SMS to the number you gave once the FRC is approved.

How do I correct my NADRA FRC?

The FRC is printed from your family record, so a wrong or missing name has to be fixed in the record first. Then you get a new FRC.

  • Corrections: Profit (June 2025) says corrections can be made through the mobile app or at NADRA offices, and wrong entries can be removed. District, regional and headquarters verification boards must decide FRC cases within 30 days.
  • A missing family member with a CNIC: ARY News (September 2026) says you can apply in Pak ID to add them, with supporting documents. After approval, you get a new FRC.
  • A missing member without an ID card: they can be added to that one certificate only. They don’t join NADRA’s permanent family record.

How long is an FRC valid?

We found no NADRA statement of an expiry date. The FRC shows your family as recorded on the day it’s printed, and ARY News says a new FRC is needed after a family member is added. Ask whoever wants the FRC (an embassy, NADRA’s succession unit, a society) whether they accept an older one.
