AI Summary
About 70 km of the Lahore Ring Road is open: the 40 km Northern Loop from Gulshan-e-Ravi to Sui Gas Housing Society, and three Southern Loop sections, SL-I, SL-II and SL-III, from Sui Gas Town to Multan Road (30.4 km). Cars pay Rs 70 at the entry plaza since December 2025. PRRA sets 100 km/h for light vehicles and 80 km/h for heavy ones. SL-4, about 18 km from Multan Road to Sharaqpur, was approved in April 2026 but not started; the Western Loop is still being planned.
About 70 km of the Lahore Ring Road is open: the 40 km Northern Loop from Gulshan-e-Ravi to Sui Gas Housing Society, and three Southern Loop sections (SL-I, SL-II and SL-III, 30.4 km) from there to Multan Road. Cars pay Rs 70 at the entry toll plaza since December 2025. SL-4, about 18 km from Multan Road to Sharaqpur, was approved in April 2026 but we found no report of work starting. The Western Loop, which would close the circle, is still being planned.
The Punjab Ring Road Authority (PRRA, also called the Lahore Ring Road Authority) runs the road. Its website reset our connection on 22 October 2026, so we use its own pages as saved by the Internet Archive in 2024 and 2025, plus Dawn, APP and other dated reports.
It is planned as a full circle in three loops: Northern, Southern and Western. Here it is in order, starting at Gulshan-e-Ravi:
The Northern Loop starts at Gulshan-e-Ravi and crosses Saggian Chowk, Niazi Chowk, Mehmood Booti, GT Road, the canal at Harbanspura, Barki Road, the airport and Bedian Road (DHA), ending at Sui Gas Housing Society. PRRA gives it 3 + 3 lanes, 9 interchanges, a raised central median, fencing on both sides and service roads.
The Southern Loop has four sections. SL-I and SL-II were built by FWO (Frontier Works Organisation) as a 25-year toll concession and have run since December 2017. SL-III opened on 15 February 2024 (Dawn), and the Chief Minister formally opened its Multan Road Interchange in May 2024.
| Section | Length | Status (Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Northern Loop | 40 km | Open |
| SL-I | 9.35 km | Open since Dec 2017 |
| SL-II | 13 km | Open since Dec 2017 |
| SL-III | 8 km | Open since Feb 2024 |
| SL-4 | about 18 km (17 km in PRRA’s plan) | Approved Apr 2026, not started |
| Western Loop | about 26 km | Planning |
That makes about 70 km open and about 44 km more planned (our sums). PRRA’s page calls the Southern Loop “almost 37 km”, but its own section lengths add up to 47.35 km, so we give the sections.
The junctions PRRA lists on the Northern Loop include Gulshan-e-Ravi, Saggian, Niazi, Mehmood Booti, GT Road (Quaid-e-Azam), Harbanspura, Abdullah Gul (Airport Access Road), Airport, Ghazi Road, DHA Phase V/VI and Sui Gas Society. Badami Bagh and Barki Road are intersections, not interchanges.
On the Southern Loop, SL-I and SL-II have 6 interchanges, including Bulleh Shah Interchange at Gajjumata on Ferozepur Road and Adda Plot Interchange on Raiwind Road. SL-III has two, ending at the Multan Road Interchange, which officials called the biggest in Punjab.
The Lahore Ring Road Authority raised tolls with immediate effect in December 2025 (Daily Pakistan and Pakistan Observer, 24 and 25 December 2025):
| Vehicle | Dec 2023 (PRRA) | Dec 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Car or jeep | Rs 60 | Rs 70 |
| Wagon, Hiace, minibus, coaster (2025 list adds high SUVs) | Rs 120 | Rs 140 |
| Bus | Rs 300 | Rs 350 |
| Loader, pickup, dumper (2 to 3 axles) | Rs 360 | Rs 420 |
| Truck or trailer (over 3 axles) | Rs 600 | Rs 700 |
You pay once, at the entry toll plaza. FWO collects the toll on both the Northern and Southern Loops under its concession. We found no change after December 2025 and couldn’t open PRRA’s live toll page, so check the rate board at the plaza.
PRRA’s Northern Loop page sets a maximum of 100 km/h for light vehicles and 80 km/h for heavy vehicles. Some websites quote 120 km/h. PRRA gives 120 km/h only as the Southern Loop’s design speed, not as a limit.
Only fast vehicles are allowed, including high-performance heavy bikes. Pedestrians, bicycles, low-performance motorcycles and animal-drawn carts are not.
PRRA lists the Ring Road Police helpline as 1103. Its office is at Bulleh Shah Interchange (Southern Toll Plaza), Gajjumata, Ferozepur Road, phone 042-99268464 to 76.
SL-4 is not under construction as of October 2026. It has been planned for years:
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| Mar 2019 | Land acquisition began for a 17 km SL-IV from Maraka on Multan Road across the Ravi to Sharaqpur, up to 4,000 kanals (Dawn). It was meant to finish by June 2020 |
| May 2024 | At the SL-III opening, the CM told officials to take immediate steps on SL-4 (Dawn) |
| Apr 2026 | After CM approval, Punjab began preparing SL-4: about 18 km from Multan Road to Nazir Labana (Sharaqpur), over Rs45 billion, with a Ravi bridge, toll plazas and a service area, to finish within two years (APP, Zameen) |
In April 2026 officials ordered a technical working paper and an Irrigation Department report on the Ravi bridge. We found no tender, contractor or groundbreaking since. PRRA’s page, as saved in April 2025, says land acquisition “is in process”.
The Western Loop is about 26 km from the end of SL-4 back to Gulshan-e-Ravi. PRRA lists it as “in planning phase”, with no cost or date.
PRRA’s own route descriptions name only a few:
The planned Lahore–Sahiwal–Bahawalnagar motorway is to start from the Ring Road near Haloki Interchange, on SL-II (Planning Commission, June 2024). Our Lahore–Sahiwal motorway guide has its funding status.
Many other schemes advertise a Ring Road connection. A finished road doesn’t make a scheme legal, and SL-4 is not built, so “near SL-4” is a promise, not access.
For schemes on the Southern Loop’s Raiwind Road stretch, see Raiwind Road societies. For the Islamabad side, see the Rawalpindi Ring Road.
