Free tools compared

Pick a tool by testing it on your own task

Ranking lists go stale fast. A 15-minute test on your own work tells you more than any list.

Why a test beats a list

Free limits, models and features change often, so any ranking is a snapshot. Your own task is the thing that matters: your emails, your reports, your language mix.

A fair test uses the same request in two tools, side by side, and judges the results against what you needed.

A simple scorecard

Score each answer from 1 to 3 on four things: was it correct, was it usable without heavy editing, did it follow your instructions (length, tone, language), and was it clear about what it did not know.

Add a fifth line for limits: did the tool stop you, slow you down or ask you to upgrade during the test?

Try it

Run the same task in two tools

Write a polite reply to a customer who says their order arrived late. Keep it under 80 words and offer one concrete next step.

  1. Paste the same prompt into two different chatbots.
  2. Score each answer with the scorecard above.
  3. Note which one needed less editing from you.

What to look for: The better tool is the one that needs the least fixing for your kind of work, not the one with the biggest name.

Why should you use exactly the same prompt in both tools?

Otherwise you are comparing your wording, not the tools.
