Chat versus agents

What not to hand to an agent

Give an agent small, reversible jobs with review before anything is sent or paid. Keep money, passwords and legal steps with you.

Keep these with you

Passwords and one-time codes. Bank, wallet or card details. Payments and transfers. Accepting terms or contracts. Anything that is sent to other people in your name without you reading it first.

If a tool asks for any of these "to proceed", stop and do that step yourself.

A safe way to start

Begin with read-only jobs: collect information, make a table, draft a message. Review the result, then act yourself.

Give the least access that works, and use a separate account or a test copy of files where you can.

Try it

Write your own rules

List three things you will never let an AI tool do without your approval.

  1. Write them down in your own words.
  2. Add one safe job you would give an agent this week.
  3. Share the list with anyone else who uses the same tools at work.

What to look for: Rules written before you need them are easier to follow than decisions made under pressure.

Check yourself

An AI tool asks for your bank login to "find savings". What do you do?

Show the answer

Do not give it. Bank logins and payments stay with you, whatever the tool promises.
