## Summary

For October 2026, UBL pays individuals 10% a year on its rupee savings accounts up to Rs 10 million and 8% to 8.5% above. Profit is paid twice a year on the UBL Savings Account and monthly on Mahana Aamdani, Urooj Savings and Zindagi. Under UBL's July to December 2026 schedule, cheque books are free and Mukammal and Asaan accounts have no minimum balance charge. On Mukammal, the debit card fee and SMS alerts are waived only with a Rs 25,000 year-to-date average balance.

## Key facts

- Savings rate (Oct 2026): 10% up to Rs 1 crore
- Minimum balance (Jul–Dec 2026): None on Mukammal, Asaan
- Asaan account cap (branch): Rs 3 million balance
- Free IBFT a month (Jul–Dec 2026): Rs 25,000

The right UBL account depends on whether you want profit. For individuals, UBL's rupee savings accounts all pay **10% a year** on balances up to Rs 1 crore (rate sheet for October 2026); they differ in how often profit is paid. UBL's current accounts (Mukammal, Urooj, Asaan, Freelancer) pay no profit, but the main ones have **no minimum balance charge**. If you have little paperwork, the **Asaan account** needs only a CNIC.

**UBL savings rate, individuals, up to Rs 1 crore:** 10.00% a year (Simple rate on UBL Savings, Asaan Savings, Mahana Aamdani, Urooj Savings, Zindagi and Pensioner Saving accounts for October 2026. Above Rs 10 million it is 8.00% to 8.50%.)

## Which UBL account should I open?

Start from what you need. Each pick below is explained further down.

| You want | UBL account | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Profit, paid twice a year | UBL Savings Account | 10% up to Rs 1 crore, no limit on withdrawals |
| Monthly profit | Mahana Aamdani Savings | 10% up to Rs 1 crore, paid every month; opens with Rs 100 |
| An everyday account with no balance rules | Mukammal Current | No minimum balance, free cheque books and pay orders |
| An account with only a CNIC | Asaan (branch or digital) | Opens with a CNIC; up to Rs 3 million balance at a branch |
| To get paid from abroad as a freelancer | Freelancer Account | Comes with a foreign currency ESFCA (Exporter's Special Foreign Currency Account) |
| An account for a woman, senior or child | Urooj, Zindagi, UBL First | Monthly profit on the savings versions, extra perks |

UBL's Islamic accounts are sold under the **UBL Ameen** name, and its online accounts let you pick Islamic or conventional. We haven't covered UBL Ameen's rates here. For a fully Islamic bank, see [Meezan Bank accounts](/money/guides/meezan-bank-accounts/).

## What are the UBL account types?

UBL lists these rupee accounts for individuals. Rates are from UBL's rate sheet for October 2026, and the balance rules from its July to December 2026 Schedule of Charges.

| Account | Type | Profit (up to Rs 1 crore) | Profit paid | Balance rule |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UBL Savings Account | Savings | 10.00% | Twice a year | Standard charges apply |
| Mahana Aamdani Savings | Savings | 10.00% | Monthly | No minimum balance limit; opens with Rs 100 |
| Asaan Savings | Savings | 10.00% | Twice a year | No minimum balance charge |
| Urooj Savings (women) | Savings | 10.00% | Monthly | No minimum balance requirement |
| Zindagi (60 and above) | Savings | 10.00% | Monthly | No minimum balance limit; opens with Rs 100 |
| Pensioner Saving | Savings | 10.00% | Twice a year | Standard charges, no waivers |
| UBL First (under 18) | Savings | 10.00% | Monthly | No minimum balance penalty |
| Mukammal Current | Current | None | n/a | No minimum balance charge |
| Urooj Current (women) | Current | None | n/a | No minimum balance charge |
| Asaan Current | Current | None | n/a | No minimum balance charge |
| Freelancer Account | Current | None | n/a | Free services need Rs 25,000 average |
| Basic Banking | Current | None | n/a | No minimum balance penalty; opens with Rs 1,000 |

UBL ties most of its free services to one test: a **year-to-date average balance of Rs 25,000 or more** across your current-account relationship. Meet it on Mukammal, Urooj, Freelancer or Good Citizen and the debit card fee is waived, plus other services that differ by account (on Mukammal, duplicate statements and SMS alerts). Miss it and you pay normal rates, though on Mukammal and Freelancer your first debit card is still free. These rules are from the July to December 2026 schedule.

UBL's Basic Banking page (checked 17 Oct 2026) allows 2 free deposits and 2 free withdrawals a month at the branch. Each extra transaction costs Rs 50 on top of the usual charges. Withdrawals at UBL's own ATMs are free and unlimited.

## What is the UBL saving account profit rate in 2026?

For individuals, every UBL rupee savings account pays the same simple rate up to Rs 10 million for October 2026. Above that, the rate drops, and how far depends on the account.

| Account | Up to Rs 10 million | Rs 10 million to Rs 10 crore | Above Rs 10 crore |
|---|---|---|---|
| UBL Savings, Asaan Savings | 10.00% | 8.00% | 8.50% |
| Mahana Aamdani Savings | 10.00% | 8.00% | 8.50% |
| Urooj Savings | 10.00% | 8.00% | Not listed |
| Zindagi, Pensioner Saving | 10.00% | 8.50% | 8.50% |

UBL works out profit on your monthly average balance for all these accounts. Rates for these accounts are set month by month, so check the latest rate sheet on UBL's site before you deposit a large amount.

UBL's 10% matches the legal minimum. According to an Allied Bank explainer (we couldn't open SBP's site), banks must pay individuals at least 10% a year on savings, 50 basis points below the State Bank's 10.50% floor rate (as of the 15 September 2026 policy decision). Since 1 August 2026 that minimum covers only individuals with an average balance up to Rs 10 million, which is why UBL pays less above it.

If you can lock money away, the UBL Mahana Aamdani Term Deposit paid 9.50% for one year, 9.25% for six months and 9.00% for three months (October 2026), with profit every month. That is less than the 10% savings rate. Banks deduct tax on profit; see [tax on bank profit](/money/guides/tax-on-bank-profit/). To compare with other banks, see [savings account profit rates](/money/guides/savings-account-profit-rates/).

## UBL current account vs saving account: which is cheaper to run?

A current account pays nothing but suits frequent payments. UBL's main one is **Mukammal**. Figures below are from the July to December 2026 schedule.

| | Mukammal Current | UBL Savings Account |
|---|---|---|
| Profit | None | 10% up to Rs 1 crore (Oct 2026) |
| Minimum balance charge | None | Standard charges apply |
| Cheque book | Free | Free |
| Pay order | Free | Free (issued through the account) |
| Debit card annual fee | Free with Rs 25,000 YTD average; first card free | Normal fee |
| SMS alerts | Free with Rs 25,000 YTD average | Rs 250 + FED a month for branch transactions |

Cheque books are free on every UBL account under this schedule. So the Mukammal account costs you almost nothing to run if you keep Rs 25,000 on average. Below that, the card fee and the SMS charge are the main costs.

If you only want profit, the **Mahana Aamdani** account is the simplest: it opens with Rs 100, has no minimum or maximum balance, and pays 10% every month.

## What are UBL account charges?

These charges apply to most UBL accounts, as of the July to December 2026 schedule. Government levies come on top unless marked.

| Service | Charge |
|---|---|
| Withdrawal at a UBL ATM | Free |
| Withdrawal at another bank's ATM | Rs 35 |
| UBL to UBL transfer, any city | Free |
| IBFT by app, net banking or ATM | Free up to Rs 25,000 a month, then 0.1% or Rs 200, whichever is lower (incl. tax) |
| IBFT through Raast | Free |
| IBFT at a branch | Rs 200 flat |
| Debit card, issuance and annual fee each | PayPak Rs 2,000; UnionPay Rs 2,300; Visa or Mastercard Premium Rs 2,900; Premium Plus Rs 3,500 |
| Cheque book | Free |
| SMS alerts for branch transactions | Rs 250 + FED a month (digital ones free) |
| Stop payment | Rs 600 per instruction |
| Cheque returned through your fault | Rs 1,000 |
| Duplicate statement | Rs 35 (incl. tax) |

The Urooj and Freelancer debit cards cost the same as other Premium cards, Rs 2,900, unless the Rs 25,000 waiver applies. For how UBL compares with other banks, see [bank charges in Pakistan](/money/guides/bank-charges-pakistan/).

## What is the UBL Asaan account limit?

UBL's branch Asaan account can hold up to **Rs 3 million**, and you can move out (debit) up to **Rs 1 million a month**, according to UBL's Asaan page (checked 17 Oct 2026). Home remittances coming in have no cap. Any term deposit you make through the account counts toward the Rs 3 million, and outward payments abroad are restricted except by card.

Who can open it:

- Resident Pakistani individuals with a CNIC, using a short form and a self-declaration
- Only people who don't already have a UBL account
- One Asaan account per CNIC, single or joint

It opens with as little as Rs 100. Cheque books, pay orders and counter deposits are free, it has no minimum balance charge (July to December 2026 schedule), and UBL adds free accident cover of up to Rs 2.5 million. It comes as a current or a savings account; the savings version paid 10% in October 2026. For how Asaan accounts work at other banks, see [Asaan account](/money/guides/asaan-account/).

**UBL's pages disagree on the digital Asaan limit:** The Asaan Digital Account page lists a maximum balance of Rs 3 million at the top, but its FAQ and UBL's online account-opening page say Rs 1 million. The app-only Smart Account lists Rs 3 million. Until UBL confirms, plan on the lower Rs 1 million, and ask UBL before you rely on the digital account for large amounts.

## How does the UBL freelancer account work?

The **UBL Freelancer Account** is for residents who sell online services, including IT work, to clients abroad and are paid from abroad. It is a rupee current account that pays no profit, opened together with an **ESFCA** that holds foreign currency.

- **Keeping foreign currency:** you can keep USD 5,000 a month or 50% of your proceeds, whichever is higher, in USD, GBP, EUR, AED or SAR. The rest goes to your rupee account. You can't withdraw foreign currency cash inside Pakistan.
- **Debit cards:** a foreign currency Visa Business card on the ESFCA, and a rupee Visa Freelancer card. The rupee card fee is waived with a Rs 25,000 year-to-date average balance; the first card is free.
- **Free services at Rs 25,000 (July to December 2026 schedule):** cheque book, SMS alerts, other-bank ATM withdrawals and IBFT by app or net banking.
- **Documents:** your CNIC, an export agreement or freelancer undertaking, and proof such as a Fiverr or Upwork profile, a contract letter or 3 months' earning receipts. A PSEB (Pakistan Software Export Board) certificate is optional.

You can open the rupee account online or at a branch, but the ESFCA needs a branch visit. For other ways to receive money from clients, see [freelancer payment methods](/business/guides/freelancer-payment-methods-pakistan/).

## How do I open a UBL account online?

UBL's Asaan Digital Account opens on its website (checked 17 Oct 2026). It is for people new to UBL, aged 18 or over.

1. **Get your documents ready.** You need a digital copy of your CNIC, a digital copy of your signature and a webcam or phone camera for a live photo.
2. **Use a mobile number in your name.** UBL checks that the number is registered to your CNIC; if it isn't, you can't continue.
3. **Choose the account.** Pick a conventional or Islamic current account and fill in the form. No proof of income is needed; you sign a self-declaration.
4. **Verify your fingerprints within 60 days.** Use the UBL Digital App, a UBL ATM or a branch, or the account is blocked until you do.

You can also open the **Smart Account** inside the UBL Digital App with your original CNIC and a selfie. It has no initial deposit, a Rs 3 million balance limit and a Rs 1 million monthly sending limit. The **Digital Mukammal** account has no balance limits but asks for proof of occupation and income. For other banks' apps, see [open a bank account online](/money/guides/open-bank-account-online/).
