# PSID challan: what it is, how to generate one and pay it online

## Summary

A PSID (Payment Slip ID) challan is the reference number a government system creates for one payment. A PSID challan is a **Payment Slip ID**: a reference number a government system creates for one payment. You generate it on the department's portal, such as **FBR's IRIS** for federal tax or **ePay Punjab** for token tax, then pay it through **internet banking, mobile banking, an ATM or a bank counter**. For FBR, the receipt (CPR) shows in IRIS within **24 hours**.

**Two systems most people use:** FBR IRIS and ePay Punjab (FBR's ePayment 2.0 in IRIS creates PSIDs for income tax, sales tax, federal excise duty and withholding tax. ePay Punjab creates 17-digit PSIDs for token tax, vehicle transfer, property tax, professional tax, e-stamping and more. ## What is a PSID challan?

The government system creates a slip with a unique number for **one payment** and a fixed amount. Banks connected through 1LINK's bill payment network can then collect the money against that number.

PSIDs are used by several departments:

## How do I generate a PSID for an FBR challan?

FBR's home page says to use **iris.fbr.gov.pk/payment** to create a PSID. FBR's press release says ePayment 2.0 works for both registered and unregistered taxpayers.

1. **Open IRIS's payment page.** Go to iris.fbr.gov.pk/payment, or log in to IRIS and open the e-Payments tab. FBR's Tax Asaan app also has e-Payment for income tax, sales tax and federal excise duty.
2. **Choose Create Payment.** Pick the payment type, for example Income Tax Annual Return.
3. **Fill in the details.** Select the tax year, type the amount due and choose how you'll pay.
4. **Create and confirm.** Click Create, then confirm. IRIS shows your PSID.
5. **Download or print it.** You need the PSID number to pay, and a printout if you'll pay at a branch.

Check the payment type and tax year before you confirm. A tax training institute's guide (August 2026) says an IRIS PSID stays valid for **7 days** and must be created again after that; we couldn't find FBR's own statement of the validity.

## How do I pay an FBR challan online?

FBR says you can pay a PSID straight from your bank account through **internet banking, ATMs and mobile banking**, with no bank visit.

1. **Open your bank app or internet banking.** You can also use an ATM card at an ATM.
2. **Find the FBR or PSID payment option.** Menu names differ by bank, and FBR doesn't publish them.
3. **Enter the PSID.** Check the amount shown matches your slip.
4. **Pay and save the confirmation.** Keep the bank's reference number until your CPR arrives.

FBR's income tax page also says you can print the PSID and pay it at a **National Bank (NBP)** or **State Bank (SBP)** branch in the city you chose. 1LINK's bill payment network lets member banks take government payments at branch counters as well as in apps.

**JazzCash and Easypaisa for FBR:** Blogs say you can pay an FBR PSID from JazzCash or Easypaisa. We couldn't find an FBR, JazzCash or Easypaisa page that confirms this on 22 October 2026, so we can't say it works for every tax type. If your wallet doesn't show FBR, use a bank app or an ATM.

## How do I check an FBR challan online?

After you pay, FBR issues a **Computerized Payment Receipt (CPR)**. It's your proof that the tax reached FBR, not just your bank's confirmation.

- **By email and SMS:** FBR's ePayment 2.0 sends the CPR this way after payment.
- **In IRIS:** FBR says the CPR shows in IRIS within **24 hours** of payment. ePayment 2.0 also has a **PSID search** to look up past payments.
- **On the verification portal:** FBR's website links an Online Verification Portal at iris.fbr.gov.pk.

## How do I generate a PSID in ePay Punjab?

ePay Punjab is the Punjab government's payment gateway, built by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) with the Finance Department. It creates a **17-digit PSID**, different for every payment.

1. **Open ePay Punjab.** Use the app or the website.
2. **Pick the department and service.** For example, Excise & Taxation, then Token Tax, or Transfer of Ownership for Motor Vehicle.
3. **Enter your details.** For vehicle taxes, enter the registration number. The app shows the vehicle and owner from the excise records.
4. **Tap Generate Challan.** ePay creates the 17-digit PSID and, according to PakWheels, emails it to you too.
5. **Note the expiry.** PakWheels' July 2026 guide says a PSID usually lasts a few days; after that you generate a new one.

## How do I pay an ePay Punjab PSID?

ePay's own listing names three channels: **internet banking, ATM and over the counter** at a bank. PITB says the Finance Department, the State Bank, 1-Link and all scheduled banks process the payments. PakWheels' July 2026 guide gives the menu paths:

## Can I check a PSID challan by vehicle number?
