If you are choosing between Meezan and a conventional bank, see [Meezan Bank vs UBL, MCB and Bank Alfalah](/money/guides/meezan-bank-vs-other-banks/).

## What is the Meezan Bank saving account profit rate in 2026?

Meezan declares its savings rates monthly, and they follow what its deposit pool earns. These are its declared annual rates for individuals' Rupee Savings and Bachat accounts, up to Rs 10 million:

| Month (2026) | Rate a year |
|---|---|
| January | 6.75% |
| February | 6.34% |
| March | 6.33% |
| April | 6.70% |
| May | 6.79% |
| June | 6.58% |
| July | 7.04% |
| August | 6.74% |
| September | 6.63% |

Since August 2026, Meezan has used tiers for individuals. For September, Rupee Savings and Bachat paid 6.63% up to Rs 10 million, 6.00% up to Rs 250 million and 6.74% above. The Senior Citizen Account paid 6.74% above Rs 10 million.

**How the rate is set.** Meezan's savings pages say gross income is shared 50% to the bank and 50% to depositors. Each balance tier also has a *weightage*, which Meezan publishes on its savings pages. For October 2026, individuals' weightages are 0.30 up to Rs 10 million, 0.32 up to Rs 250 million and 0.36 above.

Islamic banks don't follow the 10% minimum that conventional banks must pay individuals (as of 15 September 2026, according to an Allied Bank explainer). They were taken out of that minimum from 1 January 2025 and must instead pay rupee savers at least 75% of their pools' weighted average gross yield, Aaj News reported in November 2024. So Meezan's rate isn't known in advance.

**Our calculation:** at 6.63% a year, Rs 10 lakh earns about Rs 66,300 a year, or about Rs 5,525 a month, before tax and Zakat. Banks deduct tax on profit; see [tax on bank profit](/money/guides/tax-on-bank-profit/) and [Zakat deduction from bank accounts](/money/guides/zakat-deduction-bank/).

If you can lock money away, Meezan's certificates paid more for September 2026: **9.18%** a year on a 1-year certificate with monthly profit (9.56% at maturity) and **10.12%** on 1.5 years, both from Rs 50,000. The 1-month Monthly Mudarabah Certificate paid 7.12%. Meezan stopped new bookings and rollovers of its 2, 3 and 5-year certificates on 1 April 2023. To compare banks, see [savings account profit rates](/money/guides/savings-account-profit-rates/).

**October's rate isn't out yet:** On 17 October 2026, Meezan's product pages and its 2026 rate sheet still showed September as the latest declared month. Check the bank's profit rate sheet for newer months before you compare.

## Does a Meezan Bank current account have a minimum balance?

No. The **Rupee Current Account** needs **Rs 100** to open, and Meezan's page says there are no deductions for a low balance. We found no minimum balance charge anywhere in the July to December 2026 Schedule of Service Charges. Freelancers, students, Zakat recipients and government salary or pension accounts need no initial deposit at all.

What you get with it:

- No limit on withdrawals or number of transactions
- A free cheque book (savings accounts pay Rs 25 a leaf)
- Free pay orders, internet banking and e-statements
- One debit card with no issuance fee, from Visa Classic, Visa Gold, Mastercard Classic or PayPak
- Your first SMS alert subscription free

It pays no profit. If you want profit on an account you also use for payments, the **Plus Account** is a current account that shares profit, but it paid only 0.19% a year for September 2026. Its waivers need a Rs 200,000 average balance in the previous month.

## Meezan Bank Asaan account vs current account: what's the difference?

The Asaan accounts are for resident Pakistanis with **limited proof of income**. You can open one with a CNIC, SNIC, passport, NICOP, POC, ARC or pension book. They open with Rs 100.

| | Asaan Current / Asaan Savings | Rupee Current / Rupee Savings |
|---|---|---|
| Income documents | Limited proof of income accepted | Proof of income asked for (in the app, source of income and proof of funds) |
| Maximum balance | Rs 3 million | No limit stated |
| Withdrawals | Up to Rs 1 million a month | No limit |
| Profit (savings) | 6.63% (Sep 2026) | 6.63% (Sep 2026) |

On Asaan Savings, inward remittances don't count toward the Rs 3 million. The savings versions pay the same rate, so the trade-off is the caps against the paperwork. For how Asaan accounts work at other banks, see [Asaan account](/money/guides/asaan-account/).

## How does the Meezan Bank freelancer account work?

The **Digital Freelancer Account** is for resident Pakistanis who provide digital or online services, including IT work. It comes as a rupee current or savings account, and you can link it to an **ESFCA** to keep export earnings in US dollars.

- **Opening:** in the Meezan Digital app, with no physical documents and no initial deposit. You don't need a SIM registered in your name for this account.
- **Who:** new Meezan customers only, one account per person.
- **Remittances:** personal and commercial remittances allowed in rupees.
- **Savings variant:** profit paid monthly at the same rate as other digital accounts, 6.63% for September 2026.

Already have a Meezan account? Its Rupee Current and Rupee Savings pages say freelancers can open them with satisfactory proof of income. For other ways to receive client payments, see [freelancer payment methods](/business/guides/freelancer-payment-methods-pakistan/).

## How do I open a Meezan Bank account online?

The Meezan Digital app opens Digital Asaan, Digital Remittance, Digital Freelancer, Rupee Current, Rupee Savings, Bachat and Roshan Digital accounts. It is for resident individuals who are new to Meezan, with a valid CNIC and, except for the Freelancer account, a SIM in their own name.

1. **Download the Meezan Digital app.**
2. **Verify your mobile number** with the OTP.
3. **Enter your CNIC details.** For Rupee Current, Rupee Savings or Bachat, also upload a CNIC photo and give your source of income and proof of funds. Digital Asaan and Freelancer need no documents.
4. **Add your occupation details.**
5. **Complete biometric verification and take a live selfie.**
6. **Review and submit.** Meezan says the account opens instantly, or within 2 working days if it needs extra checks.

If the in-app fingerprint check fails, you have 60 days to verify at a branch. After that, Meezan blocks withdrawals from the account. For other banks' apps, see [open a bank account online](/money/guides/open-bank-account-online/).

**Meezan's app FAQ shows an older Asaan limit:** Meezan's Digital Account FAQ gives a Rs 1 million balance limit for the Digital Asaan Account. The Digital Asaan page, checked on 17 October 2026, says Rs 3 million, as do the branch Asaan pages. We follow the product page.

## Which Meezan account suits senior citizens?

The **Senior Citizen Account** is for people aged 60 or over, and for widows and differently-abled people of any age. It has no minimum balance and pays profit monthly: 6.63% up to Rs 10 million and 6.74% above, for September 2026.

It also waives the issuance fee on your first Visa Gold debit card, and branch SMS alerts are free. Internet banking, e-statements and pay orders are free as well.
