A driving licence in Punjab starts with a **learner permit**, which you apply for online on DLIMS (the Driving License Information Management System) or the Dastak app for **Rs 500 per category**. After **42 days** you take the sign and driving tests at a licensing centre. As of October 2026, DLIMS lists a one-year car licence at **Rs 1,830** including courier, plus a Rs 150 test fee. A motorcycle licence is **Rs 930** plus Rs 50.

## How do I apply for a learner driving licence in Punjab online?

DLIMS has moved its services to **Dastak**, the Punjab government's one-window platform, as the DLIMS site says in October 2026. You can use either website or the Dastak app.

1. Create an account on DLIMS or Dastak and log in.
2. Fill in the learner licence form and choose the categories you want (motorcycle, car and so on).
3. Upload a photo of your face and scans of the **front and back of your original CNIC**. If you are over 50, add a medical certificate signed by a government doctor.
4. Generate a **PSID** (payment slip ID) and pay it by ATM, online banking or mobile banking. The fee is Rs 500 for each category.
5. Print the learner licence. DLIMS says it is available as soon as you pay, as a digital copy in your account.

While you learn, PakWheels's 2023 guide says you must show a red **"L"** on the front and back of the vehicle and have a licensed driver in the passenger seat. The same guide says a learner permit lasts six months and can be renewed. Dastak lists **Renewal of Learners Driving License** as an online service.

## How long do I wait before the driving test?

**42 days** from the learner permit. Punjab dropped the wait for about three months in 2024, then traffic police brought it back on 16 December 2024, Aaj News reported. In December 2025, Bol News again described the 42-day rule.

## What happens at the licensing centre?

You go in person with your **learner permit**. As Aaj News reported in January 2025, you must pass a **road sign test** and a **practical driving test**, and bring a medical certificate from an authorised practitioner. The fee notice it reported applied from 7 January 2025.

In December 2025, Bol News reported that licensing centres in major cities such as Lahore open **24 hours**, and those in smaller cities from 8 am to midnight. After you pass, you can download an **e-licence** while the card is posted to you.

## What is the driving license fee in Punjab in 2026?

These are the regular licence fees on DLIMS's fee page, checked on 21 Oct 2026. The fees are for **one year**:

| Category | Test fee | Licence fee | Courier | Total (without test fee) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Motorcycle | Rs 50 | Rs 450 | Rs 480 | Rs 930 |
| Rickshaw | Rs 100 | Rs 400 | Rs 480 | Rs 880 |
| Car/jeep | Rs 150 | Rs 1,350 | Rs 480 | Rs 1,830 |
| Motorcycle + car | Rs 200 | Rs 1,350 | Rs 480 | Rs 1,830 |
| LTV | Rs 150 | Rs 1,850 | Rs 480 | Rs 2,330 |
| Motorcycle + LTV | Rs 200 | Rs 1,850 | Rs 480 | Rs 2,330 |
| Tractor (agricultural) | Rs 50 | Rs 950 | Rs 480 | Rs 1,430 |
| Tractor (commercial) | Rs 100 | Rs 1,400 | Rs 480 | Rs 1,880 |

So a car licence costs **Rs 1,980** in all, and a motorcycle licence **Rs 980**. ARY News gave the same totals on 1 September 2026. When you hold more than one category, the highest category fee applies.

DLIMS says you can take a regular licence for **1 to 5 years**. It doesn't publish a total for more than one year, so check the PSID amount before you pay.

**Fines for driving without a licence:** Punjab changed its traffic fines several times in 2025 and 2026, and news reports give different amounts. We found no notification to check them against, so we don't list a figure here.

## Can I renew my driving license in Punjab online?

Yes. Dastak lists **Renewal of Regular License** and **Duplicate Driving License** as online services, as of October 2026. You can do it yourself and collect from the office, or use the doorstep service in the Dastak app, where a facilitator collects and delivers your documents.

DLIMS's renewal fees for one year, and the fines for renewing late:

| Category | Renewal fee | Late 1 to 3 months | Late 3 months to 1 year | Late 1 year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Motorcycle | Rs 450 | Rs 225 | Rs 450 | Rs 1,125 |
| Car/jeep | Rs 1,350 | Rs 675 | Rs 1,350 | Rs 3,375 |
| LTV or HTV | Rs 1,850 | Rs 925 | Rs 1,850 | Rs 4,625 |

Add Rs 480 courier to each. If you no longer have the original licence, DLIMS adds the **duplicate fee**: Rs 100 for a motorcycle, Rs 150 for a car and Rs 200 for combined categories, HTV and PSV.

## What is the age limit for a driving licence in Punjab?

PakWheels's 2023 guide gives these minimum ages: **18** for a motorcycle or car, **21** for an LTV and **22** for an HTV (or three years holding a car or LTV licence). DLIMS doesn't list ages on its own pages.

Since **June 2026**, teenagers aged 16 to 18 can get a **juvenile permit** for motorcycles and scooters up to 125cc, APP reported. The fee is Rs 1,000 at 16 and Rs 500 at 17 or 18. You need a Smart Card or Form-B, a parent or guardian with their CNIC copy, and a pass in the sign and road tests. Holders may not ride above 60 km/h and must wear a helmet.
