## Summary

On Rs 10 lakh, a conventional bank savings account paying 10.00% gives about Rs 8,333 a month before tax: Rs 6,667 for a filer and Rs 5,000 for a non-filer. Regular Income Certificates pay Rs 9,800 (Rs 8,330 for a filer), and Behbood pays Rs 10,600 with no withholding tax, as of 1 October 2026. Meezan's Saving Account paid 6.63% for September 2026, about Rs 4,420 a month for a filer. Rs 1 crore at 10% gives a filer about Rs 66,667 a month.

## Key facts

- Rs 10 lakh at 10% (filer): Rs 6,667 a month
- Rs 10 lakh in RIC (filer): Rs 8,330 a month
- Rs 10 lakh in Behbood: Rs 10,600, no tax deducted
- Rs 1 crore at 10% (filer): Rs 66,667 a month

The monthly profit on 10 lakh in a conventional bank savings account paying 10.00% is about **Rs 8,333 before tax**. After withholding tax, a filer keeps **Rs 6,667** and a non-filer **Rs 5,000**. National Savings pays more: Regular Income Certificates give **Rs 9,800 a month** (Rs 8,330 for a filer) and Behbood certificates **Rs 10,600** with no tax deducted, at rates in force from 1 October 2026.

**Monthly profit on Rs 10 lakh, filer, October 2026:** Rs 6,667 to Rs 10,600 (Bank savings at 10.00% at the low end, Behbood Savings Certificates (60 and over, widows, people with disabilities) at the high end)

## How do you work out monthly profit on a bank account?

Take the amount, multiply by the yearly rate and divide by 12. Then take off the tax.

- **Rs 10 lakh × 10.00% ÷ 12 = Rs 8,333** a month before tax.
- **Filer:** banks deduct **20%** under section 151, so Rs 8,333 − Rs 1,667 = **Rs 6,667**.
- **Non-filer:** the rate is **40%**, so Rs 8,333 − Rs 3,333 = **Rs 5,000**.

These are FBR's rates for tax year 2027 (Finance Act 2026). A filer is a person on the Active Taxpayers' List (ATL). Banks work on your monthly average balance, so the real credit can differ by a few rupees from these round figures.

## What is Meezan Bank's monthly profit on 10 lakh?

About **Rs 5,525 before tax**, or **Rs 4,420 for a filer**, at the 6.63% Meezan paid for September 2026 on its Saving Account up to Rs 1 crore. It paid 6.74% for August, which was about Rs 5,617 a month on Rs 10 lakh before tax.

Meezan declares its rate after each month ends, so the figure moves. Meezan's Senior Citizen and Women First accounts paid the same 6.63% for September. See [Meezan Bank accounts](/money/guides/meezan-bank-accounts/) and [Islamic vs conventional banking](/money/guides/islamic-vs-conventional-banking/).

## How much monthly income do National Savings schemes pay?

National Savings schemes pay more than a 10% bank account, and the tax is lower: **15% for filers and 30% for non-filers**, against 20% and 40% on bank profit.

- **Regular Income Certificates:** profit every month, for 5 years. Minimum Rs 50,000, no maximum, and anyone Pakistani can buy. Cashing in early costs 2% of the amount in the first year, falling to 0.5% in year 4 and nothing after that. No zakat.
- **Behbood Savings Certificates:** profit every month, for 10 years, with **no withholding tax** and no zakat. Only for people aged 60 or over, widows, people with disabilities (CNIC with the disability logo) and special minors through a guardian. The product page sets the maximum at Rs 75 lakh single and Rs 1.5 crore joint; CDNS's FAQ says Rs 50 lakh and Rs 1 crore, so confirm at the centre.
- **Special Savings Certificates:** Rs 5,800 per lakh **every six months**, not monthly. On Rs 10 lakh that is Rs 58,000 per half-year, about Rs 9,667 a month. A filer keeps Rs 49,300 per half-year, about Rs 8,217 a month.

**Rs 1 crore in Behbood needs a joint holding:** At Rs 1,060 per lakh, Rs 1 crore would pay Rs 1,06,000 a month. But that is above the Rs 75 lakh single limit on the Behbood product page, so it works only as a joint holding of two eligible people.
