## Summary

A .pk domain costs Rs 2,100 a year at PKNIC, the .pk registry, for registrants in Pakistan since 1 August 2026, up from Rs 1,800. PKNIC bills two years at a time, so a new name costs Rs 4,200, and every suffix (.pk, .com.pk, .org.pk and others) costs the same. You can buy direct on pknic.net.pk by card or through a reseller, who usually charges more. An unpaid domain is de-activated and released to others after a two-week hold.

## Key facts

- PKNIC price (Pakistan): Rs 2,100 a year
- Minimum term: 2 years (Rs 4,200)
- Outside Pakistan: $15.99 a year
- After expiry: 2-week hold, then released

**.pk domain registration costs Rs 2,100 a year** at PKNIC, the registry that runs every .pk name, for anyone based in Pakistan (as of October 2026). PKNIC bills **two years at a time**, so a new domain costs **Rs 4,200** to start. The price rose from Rs 1,800 a year on 1 August 2026, and it's the same for .pk, .com.pk and every other suffix.

**Cheapest way to get a .pk domain:** Rs 4,200 for 2 years (Direct from PKNIC at Rs 2,100 a year (since 1 Aug 2026). Registrants outside Pakistan pay $15.99 a year.)

## How much does a .pk domain cost in Pakistan?

PKNIC's prices, as of October 2026:

| Who registers | Price | Billed |
|---|---|---|
| Registrant based in Pakistan | Rs 2,100 a year | Two years at a time, up to 10 years |
| Registrant or registrar outside Pakistan | $15.99 a year | Two years at a time |
| Renewal | Same as registration | Two years at a time |

PKNIC raised the Pakistan price by Rs 300 a year on 1 August 2026. Older blog posts quoting Rs 1,600 or Rs 1,800 a year are out of date.

The fee doesn't come back if you change your mind. PKNIC's policy says it is non-refundable, even if you ask for the domain to be deleted.

## Should I buy from PKNIC or a reseller?

PKNIC sells direct and also through resellers, which it describes as **independent companies** with no ownership link to PKNIC. Resellers add hosting, email and support, and charge more for the domain itself.

| Seller | .pk price shown | Checked |
|---|---|---|
| PKNIC (direct) | Rs 2,100 a year, billed 2 years (Rs 4,200) | 21 Oct 2026 |
| HosterPK | Rs 4,499 for registration, renewal or transfer | 21 Oct 2026 |

HosterPK's page labels Rs 4,499 as "/ year" in one place, while older text on the same page gives a two-year price, so ask what term it covers before you pay. Its own blog says it raised the price from Rs 3,399 to Rs 3,899 in October 2025. We don't take commission from any seller.

PKNIC doesn't host websites or email. If you buy direct, you still need hosting from someone else. See [Daraz vs Shopify vs your own website](/business/guides/daraz-vs-shopify-vs-own-website/) for what a store costs to run.

## How does .pk domain registration work at PKNIC?

1. Search for the name on the **PKNIC home page** (pknic.net.pk). The same box shows who owns a taken name (WHOIS).
2. **Sign up** for a .pk account, or log in if you have one.
3. Go to **Billing > Add Domain Credits** and add funds. You can pay by credit card, a PKNIC pre-paid card bought from a reseller, or a cheque to "PKNIC (PVT) Ltd". PKNIC accepts no cash.
4. Go to **Register Domain > Register Domains** and register the name.

PKNIC updates the internet's zone files every few hours, so a new domain usually works soon after you register it. It is registered on a provisional basis at first: PKNIC's policy gives it up to 30 days to review and approve or reject the application.

You can't edit a domain name once it is registered. Check the spelling before you pay.

## .pk or .com.pk: which should I choose?

All suffixes cost the same, so choose on fit and rules:

| Suffix | Meant for | Rule to know |
|---|---|---|
| .pk | Anyone | At least 4 characters before .pk |
| .com.pk | Business or individual | Can be as short as 1 character |
| .net.pk, .biz.pk, .web.pk | Network businesses, promotion, websites | Same price |
| .org.pk | Non-profits | Same price |
| .fam.pk | Families and individuals | Same price |
| .edu.pk | Educational institutes | Inactive until PKNIC checks documents |
| .ac.pk | Academic use | No accreditation needed (since 15 May 2024) |
| .gov.pk, .gop.pk, .gos.pk and others | Government bodies only | Inactive until an official letter arrives |

A short .pk name has extra limits. A 4-character name can't contain a sub-domain word such as com, net, org or gov (so "coms.pk" is refused), and since May 2014 new .pk names can't end with one. Names can't start or end with a dash or contain two dashes in a row.

For .edu.pk, PKNIC wants an authorization letter on the institute's original letterhead, proof of registration with a government education body and a CNIC copy, sent by post to Lahore.

## What happens when a .pk domain expires?

PKNIC raises an invoice a few weeks before expiry and tries to email a reminder. Its policy says a missed reminder is no excuse for paying late.

If you don't pay by the due date, PKNIC may **de-activate** the domain. After a **two-week hold**, anyone can register it, first come first served. You can pay and re-activate it during the hold.

To renew early, raise your own invoice under **My Domains > Manage Domains > Invoice For Payment**, or pay by card under **Billing > Pay Domains**. A reseller or your ISP can also pay for you.

**Check who holds the PKNIC account:** PKNIC sends renewal reminders to the account holder and billing contact. If a web developer registered your domain in their own PKNIC account, the reminders go to them. Moving it to your account later needs posted, signed documents. Ask for it to be registered in your name and account from day one.

## How do I transfer a .pk domain to another registrar?

PKNIC moves domains between accounts on paper, not with a transfer code:

- **Company:** a signed and stamped authorization letter on letterhead from the CEO or a director (not the domain agent), naming the old and new account IDs, plus the signatory's CNIC copy.
- **Individual:** an affidavit on **Rs 100 stamp paper**, attested by an oath commissioner, with your contact details and both account IDs, plus your CNIC copy.

Send the **originals by post** to PKNIC Collection, 435 Tariq Block, Garden Town, Lahore. PKNIC doesn't accept scans, and it verifies the documents by phone. The transfer takes about **3 to 4 business days** after that, and only works while the domain hasn't expired.

## Does a .pk domain protect my brand name?

No. PKNIC's policy says registering a domain gives you no legal right to the name. Disputes go to arbitration under PKNIC's version of the international UDRP rules. To protect a brand, see [trademark registration in Pakistan](/business/guides/trademark-registration-pakistan/).
